40+ Hands-On Projects by Day.

Community Gathering and Music Festival By Night.

Each day of the convergence at sites all around the city (there are more than 40 sites this year!!), neighbors come together with visitors to create community spaces that feature public art, gathering places, permaculture gardens, and natural buildings, in a process we call "placemaking". These projects happen each day of the convergence at sites around Portland. See our description of hands-on sites for the details of what, where, and when these projects are happening. Participating in these are free for everyone!

In the evening, we come together for an inspiring conference, community gathering, and incredible music festival. There are six evenings of events at St. David's Community Center at 2800 SE Harrison Street, Portland, OR 97214, which we transform in an amazing place full dynamic indoor and outdoor spaces. These evenings start with a community dinner at 5:30pm, workshops at 6:30 and music at 8pm. The tickets for these evenings are an incredible value and help support our placemaking community service workThere are four other evenings with exciting VBC related events

Community-Driven Art and Sustainability Projects

More than 40 neighborhoods are participating in hands-on community building projects. Join us at sites throughout the city May 29-June 7!

Placemaking is a multi-layered process within which citizens foster active, engaged relationships to the spaces they inhabit to inspire communal stewardship and lived connection.

Intersection Repairs

Neighbors, community organizers and local schools come together to "repair" their intersections. They plan and draw murals then watch their vision come to life during the Village Building Convergence as members of the community paint together.

Natural Building

During the Village Building Convergence, City Repair hosts several workshops on building with cob and straw bale, making rocket stoves, and more natural building techniques.

Permaculture

Throughout the city, City Repair will host demonstration sites and workshops on urban food gardens.  Prepare to get your hands dirty!
